New England Patriots to Sign New Defensive Free Agents

Here are some possible New England Patriots defensive free agents that could be signed as camp additions.

The New England Patriots looked primed for another strong season in 2018. Now that the offseason is in full swing, there are still quite a few unsigned free agents, which could add some depth or at the very least be added to the Patriots roster as a camp body.

Of course, the roster already has 90 players on it, so most of these would be highly unlikely but it’s always fun to speculate.

Defensive Ends

Charles Johnson

Of the remaining defensive end’s in the Patriots mold, Johnson is the best potential fit. The 32-year-old is very similar in terms of size to recent veteran free agent signing Adrian Clayborn.

At 6’2”, and 275lbs, Johnson can still rush the passer and stop the run. His last deal with the Panthers was around $4.25 million per year, so money should not be too much of an object if both parties wanted to make a deal.

The other options available are Robert Ayers, Conor Barwin, Courtney UpshawTamba Hali or Willie Young.

Interior Linemen

Ricky Jean-Francois

With the talent already available to the Patriots in Danny SheltonMalcom BrownVincent Valentine and Adam Butler, the Patriots might just opt for a veteran backup that can fill inif there is an injury. Already knowing the system is an added bonus.

Jean-Francois spent most of the second half of the 2017 season on the Patriots roster and filled in capably when called upon. Whilst Jonathan Hankins might be the most talented player available, the talk is that he is pricing himself out of a move. Fairley has both health and character concerns.

The other options were Johnathan Hankins, Nick Fairley, Karl Klug or Sealver Siliga.
